British Drama Toolkit (BDT) is a new sample library by the wonderful Spitfire Audio. Within seconds of hearing this Kontakt instrument I was sold. Its being marketed as a tool to help compose emotional scores or cues on the fly, without having to devote large amounts of time on the computer to make it work. Usually when you write using any sample library you're switching between two modes: writing/playing, and manipulation/editing. You play your idea on the keyboard to record the MIDI data, then you spend some time focusing on the various layers you want and how they ebb and...

Spitfire is back at it again with another interesting orchestral sample library, they're cranking these excellent instruments out so quickly i'm wondering if this is what the Apollo 13 movie meant when they said the moon missions were starting to feel routine. London Contemporary Orchestra Textures (LCO Textures) is a follow up to their internationally-acclaimed London Contemporary Orchestra (LCO) - a library I also own and LOVE. Why is this Kontakt library so special you ask? Well, to start it was recorded in a cavernous decommissioned air hanger in Suffolk, England, originally built to test American fighter planes (which has...

Spitfire Audio is at it again with the follow up to their Studio line of orchestral Kontakt libraries - Spitfire Studio Brass. Just like Studio Strings the library comes in two flavors, standard and professional, and was recorded at Air Studio One with a dryer tracking to facilitate better mixing control. Spitfire Studio Brass is available for $199, with professional at $399, but they're both on sale until December 27th 2018. Just for the sake of this review, i'm going to mainly cover the professional edition since its the version I have. If I mention anything about the standard edition...

"Strange. Dark. Evolving. Unsettling. Weird." All of these things are perfect descriptors for Atom Hub's Kontakt Library The Planet - Deep Scan (henceforth known as Deep Scan). Deep Scan does a great job at carving out its own unique place in the sample library market, by perfectly setting a vibe and executing on it in every way. The library provides a level of immersion and almost plays like a composition in its own right. "Is IT communicating with us? Is IT... living? Who are THEY? Is there ANYBODY at all?" The Sounds Its probably better if you just take a listen...

The Sound Design Bundle by Krotos Audio is a collection of audio tools suited for advanced sound design manipulation. It includes Dehumaniser 2, Reformer Pro, and Weaponiser Fully Loaded. Dehumaniser 2 is a unique sound design tool that produces studio-quality monster and creature sounds in real-time using your voice (read my review of that here). Weaponiser Fully Loaded is kind of like a giant sample pack of weapon sounds combined with a powerful sound design plugin to morph the sounds into your own brand new weapon sound - the main collection is guns but they also offer expansions for swords...
